Classes

At Lycan Jiu Jitsu in Berkeley, we provide BJJ and martial art classes for everyone—from complete beginners to experienced competitors. Whether you're looking to build practical self-defense skills, improve your fitness, or train for your next tournament, our welcoming community and expert instructors have a class that's right for you.

Adults Gi and No Gi

The Adult Gi and No-Gi BJJ classes are for students of all levels to develop core Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills.
In Gi classes, you'll train in the traditional gi attire (including colored belt), learning the various grips and submissions that come with it. In our No Gi classes, you'll focus on jiu jitsu without the help of sleeves and lapels.

Both programs develop essential BJJ fundamentals including positional control, submissions, escapes, and defensive techniques.

Women's Only BJJ

Our Women's Only class provides a supportive environment for female students to learn BJJ and build confidence. Following the same curriculum as our Adults classes, you'll master fundamental and advanced BJJ techniques while training exclusively with other women. All skill levels welcome—from first-timers to seasoned grapplers.

Striking

Expand your stand-up skills with our Striking Fundamentals class! This newly launched program teaches essential boxing techniques including proper punching form, defensive movements, footwork, head movement, and combinations. No previous striking experience required—our instructors break down techniques step-by-step for students of all levels.

Kids BJJ

Our Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program helps children ages 8 and up develop confidence, discipline, and practical self-defense skills in a safe, structured environment. Kids will learn fundamental BJJ techniques, improve their coordination and fitness, and build resilience through positive challenges.

Competition Training

Take your grappling to the competition level with our specialized Competition Training program. This class focuses on match conditioning, live sparring rounds, and mental preparation for competition day. Whether you're gearing up for your first local tournament or training for major IBJJF events, you'll develop the skills and competitive mindset needed to perform your best.
