Lycan Self Defense Workshop: A Recap

Lycan Self Defense Workshop: A Recap

On Sunday, September 27, we opened the mats at 2905 Shattuck Ave for our first free Self Defense Workshop. Lycan members trained side by side with new faces from the Berkeley community.

Coach Joe Monroe faces an attendee in the middle of the mat while the rest of the group watches.

Starting with real situations

Coach Joe Monroe built the session around confrontation: how one starts, how it closes in, and what you can do to protect yourself. He walked the group through one scenario at a time, so everyone understood the situation before learning a response.

Then everyone practiced

For each scenario, Joe showed a few techniques, and then attendees paired up and practiced them on each other at their own pace. Coach Ken Kim worked the room, helping pairs get the details right.

A great first event

Thank you to everyone who came, members and newcomers alike. The best part of the day was seeing people who had never trained these movements before put them into practice by the end of the day.

Stay tuned for the next one

The Self Defense Workshop will continue to be free and open to everyone, with no experience needed. Get notified about the next date.
